Evendale Recreation Commission
September 21, 2006
Called to order at 7:34 a.m.
Roll Call: Mary Lou Isaac, Craig Reeder, Doug Lohmeier, David Nichols, Pam Meyers, Gus Janszen, Michele Gottschlich, Wayne Mosley.
Recognition of Visitors:
Kathy McGrath and Rick Hasler, Tri-Health Fitness Management
· 2nd Quarter Prevention class was “Fall Prevention for Seniors;” five people attended, and others have been picking up the information packets.
· “Evendale 100” incentive program had a 69% completion rate. A walkers program was added this year.
· In Healthy Ohioans Walk program our members and residents completed 150 miles.
· Many summer classes were cancelled because of lack of registration. However, the classes that were held had increased attendance. For the fall session, fourteen of the sixteen classes/programs are being held.
· The 3rd Quarter incentive program is the “Evendale Football League.” Thirteen teams are competing. It started a few days ago, and the teams are already having fun.
· This quarter’s prevention class is “Active through Arthritis.”
· Mary Lou likes the “longer” sessions. Pam suggests one-half term session rates, in addition to the “walk-in” rate.
Phi Lambda Pi Report:
· Last month, a new group of eighth graders joined. Those wishing to participate were teamed with an existing member for the “Fresh Meat Competition.” Phi Lambda Pi member Matt Murray headed the event. Each winning team member received a $100 VISA gift card; second place team each received a $25 Phi Lambda Pi certificate.
· Rock the Dale sold 154 wrist bands; a good turn out for the first concert. Next year, the event time frame will be shorter.
· A party for all members was held at the pool.
· Averages of 25-35 members are attending “Open House” on Wednesdays.
Motion to approve the August minutes made by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Pam Meyers. Motion approved.
New Business:
· The “Operation Sub-Committee” recommends open at 11:00 am on Sundays; the clerks and Tri-Health staff will still report at noon (until noon, members would enter through the south doors). On Sunday, December 24th, the Recreation Center should close; and on Friday, November 24th, the center should have normal hours of operation. In addition, the “summer” center hours will remain the same (with the possible exception on Sunday.) Motion to accept the sub-committee’s recommendations with Sunday’s hours on a trial basis (Jan. 7 – May 20) made by Doug Lohmeier; seconded by Wayne Mosley. Motion
approved.
Old Business:
· Tri-Heath August report – no discussion
Director’s Report:
· The “Sunday’s” center extended hours will be advertised through the website and signage within the Recreation Center.
· Dog Day at the Pool went well with a couple of issues. At this time, for next year’s event, there will be a few modifications. All registrants received a letter concerning these prospective changes.
Open Discussion:
· Michele, Mary Lou, and Dave, after this meeting, will walk the newly constructed Park Hills Trail. All commission members were invited to join them.
· Per Gus, Soccer Field #3 has mole problems again. Wayne suggested Public Works contact him about a “mole” product he knows will work.
· A U-6 Soccer clinic was held. Everyone had a good time, especially the kids who had never touched a soccer ball.
· The soccer trainer has been well liked by everyone. Many are commenting on how good of a job he is doing.
· SAY Central is being organized, and the league will be ready for spring soccer, 2007.
Motion to adjourn made at 8:18 a.m. by Doug Lohmeier; seconded by Michele Gottschlich. Motion approved.
